Arrange a tour of the site you are interested in so you know what that organization does.
Pre-arrange a meeting with your site supervisor to talk about your role and responsibility.
You may want to role-play with an adult prior to the first meeting or interview. You may want to do this with a parent, older sibling or the VolunTEEN director at JFS.
When interviewing remember:
No gum chewing
Constant eye contact
Say “Yes” not “Yeah”
Minimize the “likes” “ums” and “ya knows”
Responsibilities:
Be prompt, willing, and respectful at your volunteer site.
Positive attitudes are a must!
“What you see there, what you hear there, LET IT STAY THERE! Please respect the confidentiality of the people served!
Keep an open mind when learning about new cultures and lifestyles that are different from yours.
Follow through with your project and hours.
Fulfill all agreed upon duties and responsibilities of your placement
Speak to your volunteer site supervisor if you are uncomfortable or uncertain about your role/job.
PROMPTLY INFORM JFS IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR PLACEMENT.
