Children & Youth Services

Children can suffer from the stresses of life even when they do not verbally express the problem. When faced with loss, depression or anger, some children demonstrate behavior changes, others withdraw. Professional licensed clinicians, trained to meet the specific needs of children and adolescents, provide therapy, consultation, classes, workshops and support for infants, children, teens, parents and educators.

Therapy – Each child we assist benefits from the expertise of the JFS clinicians and their knowledge and access to a wide range of effective therapeutic methods. For children too young to verbalize, clinicians employ age appropriate tools such as play therapy enabling the children to express emotions through play. For a teen struggling with anxiety or simply needing assistance in navigating the multiple and complex ups and downs of adolescence, JFS clinicians can help identify coping strategies and help the youth regain balance.

Child Observations – For parents who are concerned about their child’s behavior at school, JFS clinicians are available to the Jewish Preschool on Sardis, Charlotte Jewish Preschool and the Charlotte Jewish Day School to observe your child. Following the observation, the parent will receive a comprehensive assessment and a recommendation of the best follow-up steps. If the clinician believes the child could benefit from additional services within or outside of JFS, linkages to the proper resources are coordinated. There is a fee for this service. Please contact the JFS office for additional information.

Groups & Workshops – Based on need and community response JFS leads groups and workshops focused on the specific needs of children and youth. Some typical areas include such issues as socialization groups, anger management and children with special needs.
